Composer and flamenco pianist

In every field there are those who are able to see the future. In today’s Flamenco world, one such person is Pablo Rubén Maldonado. Amongst today’s young Flamenco pianist, Pablo is a unique phenomenon.

Pablo’s hunger for knowledge of other music than Flamenco does not end with classical music. He has also studied and has been influenced by afro Caribbean music, pop, tango, funky and maybe more than any other music, jazz, which he has studied in great detail. Amogst the Greats of the world of Flamenco he has collaborated with stand out illustrious artists as Jorge Pardo – none other than Paco de Lucia’s Flautist, Farruquito and his mother La Farruca – perhaps the most famous figures of the ‘Flamenco Puro’ (traditional Flamenco) dance world, the most famous flamenco ‘compas’ poet Diego Carrasco, Rafaela Carrasco and Andrés Marin – both leading figures in the modern Flamenco dance world, María Toledo, Marina Heredia and Guadiana – all renowned cantaores (singers) of today’s flamenco world, and many, many more.

In today’s world, a person who can speak so many musical languages, but has been able to retain his true identity, is an inspiration for generations to come.

Born in Granada to a gypsy family deeply imbedded in the art of Flamenco, where one can find such artists as ’Antonio Cujón”, founder of ‘la zambra granadina’, Pepe Albaycín, a charismatic cantaor (singer) and from the world of dance, the emblematic José Carmona and the great dancer, choreograph and teacher, Mario Maya, Pablo has been living and breathing Flamenco since virtually the day he was born.

Pablo Rubén Maldonado won the flamenco hoy award for the best flamenco instrumental recording  in 2011 for his solo CD Fuera de la Realidad.

Composed the music for a video “La danza de los pinceles” directed by Charles Olsen, prizewinner of the the first Flamenco Film Festival organised by deflamenco.com <http://deflamenco.com/> .
